Safari Lodge

Client: Confidential

Location: Tanzania, Africa

Type: Safari Lodge

GFA: 300 m² half inside, half terrace

A safari lodge designed for an idyllic site deep in the Serengeti National Park. The building materials were sourced from the surrounding savannah and mountains, blending the lodge seamlessly into the landscape.

The intention was to create a truly sustainable building where it would be possible (with the aid of solar energy) not to rely on the wider resources of the earth to make the structure exceptionally habitable. Simple, traditional construction methods were chosen with the notion that if the lodge were left abandoned, it would crumble back into nature with no long-term impact.
