Burj Al Arab

Client: Confidential

Location: Dubai, UAE

Type: 7 Star All Suite Hotel

The Burj Al Arab Hotel (Tower of the Arabs) was designed by Tom Wright in October 1993 and completed in November 1999, in time for the millennium.

The design brief was to create an icon for Dubai, a building that would become synonymous with the place; just as Sydney has the Opera House and Paris the Eiffel Tower, so Dubai was to have the Burj Al Arab.

The unique shape of the hotel building takes the form of a giant modern sail that heralds Dubai as an exciting and vibrant holiday destination. The hotel has 202 suites that are accessed from the tallest atrium in the world. When it was opened it was the only self-proclaimed seven star hotel in the world.
